Weekly Report – 2018 06 26 / 2018 07 01

I am Eliot Geoffroy and this is what happened during this week.
We are now very used to the life in Egao no Mori and also to its different types of work. But there are also new interesting things that we are discovering and still have to discover. This week, the weather was mostly rainy and cloudy but we managed to work hard and have good times.

On Tuesday, we had the chance to work with Takarabako again and this time, since it was rainy, we went picking grass to feed the goats. It was a very nice time despite a little capricious weather. We also processed Rakkyo the rest of the day.

On Wednesday, we worked in the paddies to fix some rice plants that were not enough strongly planted. We also made an efficient Rakkyo processing and had time to clean the work entrance as well as peeling onions.

On Thursday, after working around the rice paddies by cutting grass with cord cutter and kusakariki, we discovered a new work: spreading nuka, the rice shell powder. It allows rice plants to grow better.

On Thursday night, we celebrated the end of rice planting season at Mari san’s restaurant with Sansonjuku’s community members. The food was delicious and we had a lovely time. After that, a few of us went to Komori san’s house to watch the Japan game.

On Friday, we had a special work day where we discussed between the volunteers on how to build Ao’s house. We came out with a sketch, the measurements and a list of materials.

On Saturday, we harvested Rakkyo and cut goat’s food in the morning and in the afternoon, we processed the Rakkyo and did some maintenance. A big storm struck so we had to work in the entrance: impressive!

On Sunday, we had a cutting grass event with local farmers. We used Kusakariki along with many farmers and then, cleaned the ditches. It was a hard work because of the heat but we were nicely invited for lunch, met new people and spend a good time.
It was a very enjoyable week, followed by a vacation of two days where everyone will have a trip in different cities.
