Week 4 – 9-12/9

As far as the performance date getting closer and still not so sure about what do, we planned to have more research on Kasahara to help us find out the essential of locality for planting the “SEED”.

We went to visit a school which is being abandoned at 2014, such a deep sorrow we can feel as we saw the monument which is about a hundred year’s anniversary. They also engraved the abandoned date right on the side, so much sorrow in between.

Meanwhile, just right at the next day of visiting school, “Higanbana” (red spider lily) started to blossom which makes me think of the depopulation of Kasahara. The floriography of it is about “hopeless endless” as its flower and leaf could never be present at the same time just like people who knows others but never meet. It’s quite pessimistic to me as it’s just the interpretation matter. “Higanbana” born from its leaf like “phoenix reborn from ashes”.

After 4 weeks, I could see and appreciate the efforts of people do for saving Kasahara such as promoting organic farm to sustain human and land’s “health”, getting volunteer for man power and changing atmosphere of Kasahara as per depopulation. Now, they are trying to use ART to rebuild the locality as what I have learned in the work camp is community need locality to survive. Community is dying if it lost its locality. It’s just like a sign to see Kasahara start blossoming from depopulation like “Higanbana”, so much motivation we’ve got here to work out best for the coming folk art performance.

Last but not least, we’ve got something new to do other than routine mission is observing how locals cutting down the tree which is a kind of tree management. (Albert)
